Wear test for the win

Image
Have I mentioned I love my job.... Only a million times then. The love was reinforced yesterday when I got these New shoes to try. So that is a ton of awesome.

I may have a slight addiction

Image
An addiction to running gear. And bad reality television, but let's tackle one problem at a time. These I know, I know I just got other shoes but I like to have a few in rotation. And for the record I  LOVE these. That is right capital letter love. It is serious. and this  are the newest additions to my workout/ running collection of awesome gear that I can just not live without. So this is me only in addition to races add gear. Exciting news!!!! I broke my own I am not going to run until the 4th of July half ' rule and went for a run this morning and it went great. Now I did a tiny run on the treadmill on Tuesday and I felt fine. So today I headed outside for a three miler that turned into a five miler when I discovered a new running trail. I can not believe I did not know it was there. There is this dirt road entrance that I have run by probably a million times and never went down it but today I did and it is a nature area with a trail through a bea...

Red Letter Day

Image
Look what came in the mail today Magic, pure magic Besides race mornings and PRs, new shoes are the most exciting thing in a runner's life. Well in this runner's life anyway.  My tendon pain flared up a bit after Tuesday's magic, naked run of awesome (pretty sure I also saw a unicorn while out there). Usually when this type of pain sets in I can blame the shoes. Too many miles, corrective inserts for those of us who have a 'special' stride too flat or a combo of both. Or just not supportive enough shoes to begin with. So we are going to try the above pictured blue and green beauties tomorrow and see if running feels better.  One thing I cannot seem to do for no apparent reason other than I am just lazy is keep track of the mileage on my shoes. I could write it down, I could keep a spreadsheet which would work well with my full on nerdiness, even just estimate looking back. But no for some reason I refuse. But no more. Today, TODAY I vow to keep...

Random Saturday Stuff

Image
Since I haven't been running as much as usual I have had time to do other things. Besides watching the first five seasons of Say Yes to the Dress (why is that show so addicting- it is basically a show about shopping and yet I love it) I have been reunited with my other hobby- photography. Photos from the morning walk with Max. \ Get ready to see more photos on the blog- if you aren't into it, tough my blog. It has been really fun to get back into and I think it is good for me to have something to do besides work and run......and watch entire seasons of shows about dress buying. Of course once I start hitting the high mileage again other things tend to fall to the wayside. Since I am basically spending this Saturday waiting around to run the marathon on Sunday I thought shopping seemed like the perfect time killer. I got myself a sweet new tripod. It's a photo... of a camera- just blew my mind I also finally made my way to the Outlet Mall, can't be...

Running Quiz

I have stolen this quiz from Behold the Turtle who stole it from Jogging on Coffee . I thought it was too fun to pass up plus with no races I feel like I am short on things to blog about. This is the longest I have gone without racing since starting this blog. I am living vicariously through everyone else and wishing I was racing with them. Fuel: Shot Bloks, GU, Energy Chews, Candy or Other?   GU- vanilla flavored or death. Okay maybe it is not that dramatic but vanilla is  my favorite. I also like Swedish fish because they are the best candy known to man. Race Length: 5k, 10k, 1/2 Marathon, Marathon, Ultra or Other?  To those of you who are new to the blog gotta say the half marathon is my favorite length distance. Though this year is the year of the marathon and I want to do an Ultra someday. And short distances are nice because well, they are shorter. So I like running.... Workout Bottoms: Skirts, Running Shorts, Capris, Pants or Other? I like to r...

Running Stuff

Image
Well the 'must own all the running things' addiction reared its ugly head again. Though I had been wanting the chevron or candy strip running skirt when I saw this one on sale for $26 I had to order it. I love it! I can't wait to race in it this spring. This will have to hold me over until the other two go on sale. My general running attire rule is I buy nothing full price. Speaking of sales....... I bought some Brooks that were on sale on Zappos. The awesome bloggers over at Behold the Turtle and My Heart's Conten t had good things to say about Brooks so I am excited to give them a whirl.  Plus they are super fun colors. Have you scored any good running deals lately?

Sweat Pink Ambassador and other fun stuff

Image
1) You may have noticed a big ole Sweat Pink button to the right, that is because I am now a sweat pink ambassador . That means I get to be part of a super fun healthy community and meet other people interested in fitness and hopefully inspire some myself. I have already met some inspiring people and am excited to meet more! Plus their mission statement states "We believe that kicking ass is best done in pretty shoes" and you all know I love me some shoes. Speaking of shoes 2) These came in the mail yesterday Mmmm gotta love that new shoe smell- I think pink laces will go well in these! I know, I know you all are probably like but you just got some new running shoes . And I did I got some Saucony pro grids. And they suck I want to be loyal. You and me Saucony, we have had a lot of really great miles. But whatever you have done to the newer version of your shoes, or perhaps my feet have just changed, it is just not working. It's not you it's me, or maybe...

Beaten with a stick

Image
a zumba stick and muscle pump stick over and over and over again. It hurts so good. Taking a fitness class outside of my comfort zone makes is pretty obvious that my overall fitness may be lacking. My arms hurt so bad yesterday after muscle pump I had a hard time driving the car. You want me to turn the wheel......I just don't have it in me. My little t-rex arms hurt so bad the D had to make dinner and did a mighty fine job. Which is sad for him because now I will expect dinner perfection every night of the week from now on. Now get in the kitchen and cook for me (see what you get for being good at something around here). Got some new running supplies superfeet and shoes. Maybe this will help with the hip issue which is slowly getting better (stretching, icing, varied workouts and funny enough doing drills where I shuffle sideways, run backwards and skipping seem to be helping). It would appear I need new inserts every three to four months. Which sucks because they run abo...

Seriously people....get it together

Today was not a great day. My alarm went off an hour early to get in some yoga time. When it cried out with its annoying little beep I promptly snatched it off the nightstand, reprogrammed it for an hour later and went back to sleep. All without ever really waking up. Pretty magic. But when I woke up the second time I was mad that I had skipped yoga time and would therefore have to fit in a workout later (and to be honest if a workout doesn't happen before 10a.m. there is a 99.9% chance it ain't happenin) Wait I missed yoga-damn And then I went to school. And tried to come up with a date where 5 academics can be in the same room for an hour and a half to do the oral comprehensive exam component of my PhD exams which is apparently more elusive than: and and my ability to obtain these shoes Email conversation from earlier today: Me: Dear Comps Committee I have picked theses dates as the dates for my exam. Please let me know if t...

Shout Out to the Hubby

Image
When we had Thanksxmas the other day the hubby and I exchanged gifts and he got me: Nike tempo shorts New running sunglasses: Maxx brand in an awesome royal blue color Book: Going Long full of fun running stories Not only does he endure me buying running shoes like it is my job, signing up for every race in a 500 mile radius, get up early to cheer me on at races, listen (or at least nod and smile) when I come home from a run and want to rehash every step but he also gets my fun running gifts. You are the best D! Workout Sunday: 45 min spin, Yoga by Jillian (she really is evil) Workout Monday: 6 mile run in an hour

Xmas came early

My right foot has been hurting for awhile so yesterday I decided to do something about it before I ended up with a serious injury and this blog turned into the sad place where I complain about not running. I got different shoes (Fleet Feet shout out) (empty wallet shout out). Even though I have been wearing Saucony shoes forever now, when they switched from Pro Guide 3 to Pro Guide 4 something happened. My foot changed or the shoe changed but my right foot and shoe just kept fighting so they decided to split up and only see each other on four mile or under runs. For long runs my feet are now dating...... Look at those sexy ankles whooo And this relationship is looking pretty good. I haven't been running yet, decided to bike this morning and let my right foot/ankle recover a little but Wednesday is the first date so we will see how it goes. Fingers crossed it is magical. Plus these Nike shoes are super hot. I mean just look at the flashy blue color. Plus they make my...

The Back before the Crack

Image
...of dawn is when I got up this morning to go running. 4:45 a.m. Since it is so dark out now I have to drive over to the lighted park so I don't fall into a hole and kill myself (actually lighting doesn't prevent this only makes it slightly less likely. I broke my foot stepping off a stair wrong in high school. I am not the most graceful or coordinated swan). The park is nice- three mile loop, next to a police station with other runners and walkers as crazy as I am so I feel pretty safe plodding along when it is pitch black out and normal people are still curled up in their cozy beds. I wore my new shoes always takes awhile to get comfortable. But since my knees were a little achy after my Wednesday run of awesome I thought it might be time to start rotating the new ones in and using the old for short distances. My run was kind of blah. I just felt off the whole time. It is funny how some days are awesome and some not so much. Not sleeping well last night might have some...

Three Things Thursday

Image
1. I love my zensah compression sleeves, they rock so much I wore them for like 5 hours yesterday. Umm not really necessary 2. My visor is awesome and I give it a thumbs up (and a one eyed stare) 3. I apparently think my feet are tinier than they are since I ordered shoes in the wrong size. Hello the only other shoes I wear are these Not really but I do wear size 12 in running shoes (I am tall people stop judging) so not far off from the truth.
