Let's 10K Shall We

Image
Saturday is a big day. D & I are running a 10k together. Or at least we will stand at the start line together and find each other at the finish. It has been awhile since we have run 'together'. Not only will we be celebrating life, we will also be celebrating that this race starts a block from our house and doesn't start till 9a.m. The only down side is towards the end of the race I believe we may run right past our house and I will already have my t-shirt at this point so it would be so easy to say hello couch and goodbye run. I ran part of the course this morning and it is a really- beautiful down to Lake Michigan past fields of wild sunflowers and only a little bit hilly but all the hill is at the end- course. Should be fun. I haven't run a 10k in a few years and I believe my time was around a 1:16 but that course was hills from start to finish so I am thinking I can get close to an hour now if not under. Goals: A goal: Under an hour B goal: hour to hou...

Breakfast at Tiffany's

Image
This weekend has been amazing. D & I both took Thursday and Friday off to have a little staycation at the house I am babysitting. For us having more than one bathroom in a house is pretty exciting. Throw in a pool and cable and we lose our minds. We BBQ'd with friends, I went on a fun long run with a friend, we ordered out and picked up food (yay no cooking) and just relaxed. Amazing. And then today D kicked it up a notch and took me here to get an early anniversary gift. Tiffany's have a collection of necklaces with bean charms on them. How perfect is that and D thought I needed a necklace that is such a perfect fit with my nickname. He is good, he is very good. I was freaking out and super excited but I think that happens a lot in that store because the salesman didn't even bat an eye and even wrapped up the necklace so I could open it again. How awesome is that. And then D took me to get gelatto because I had a coupon for a free one. Best day ever...

Last night was date night and since I am a true romantic I forced D up a mountain and made him eat at some hole in the wall places. Ah amore. We have lived in Tucson for four years now and had never driven to the top of A mountain. Well cross that one off the bucket list. A for awesome...or Arizona  This is the view from the top. You can see forever and really notice how sprawled out the area has become. What it looks like from the bottom We also went to Sonoran delights which is over by the mountain. The food was really good but it was hot in there and more like a taco stand with a permanent location. One thing I can not get behind with Sonoran food is the lack of cheese. Burros and tacos have no cheese on them. So sad. I had two soft shell chicken tacos and D had a cabeza burrito. That is right, head meat. Looked pretty good and he said it was delicious.  Afterwards we hit up another stand type restaurant thingy called Oasis that only sells desserts. I go...

What a Bust

This weekend was supposed to be all about D, graduation and fun. Instead it was about me getting admitted to the hospital. I guess I thought D was just pulling too much focus. Had to bring it on back to me. Things started out fine. Picked up the parents-in-law, had fun at lunch and went to a friends party. But throughout the day I was feeling  kind of funny and by the time we left our friend's party I knew I had a fever. So got some thermaflu and crossed my fingers that with some rest and drugs and I would wake up all better, bright eyed and ready to scream my head off at graduation cause I am classy like that. Didn't happen. Temp of 104, passing out and generally feeling like death meant no attending graduation for me (I made D and his parents go which he did not thank me for since he was worried about me the whole time). D got home from graduation and took me to an urgent care place who sent me to the ER when all their test came back negative except for a high white blood...

Celebrate!

Today I went back to the social security office. I came prepared this time. I had made peace with the fact that hours of my life would be spent in a plastic chair at this office and brought reinforcements. Kindle, Magazine, water and a snack (wasabi peas, weird and random but all I could find in the cabinet). And then I only had to wait about 20 minutes. Pretty painless this time. No bomb threats, no mass crowds of humanity. Never, ever go to a government office on a Monday. Lesson learned. The D is graduating from the U of A this weekend so family is coming to town. This meant I had to go to the grocery store to stock up and came away with this It seems bigger in person, this picture is not doing it justice. Largest bottle of champagne I have ever seen. We are going to celebrate hardcore this weekend. I also had a coupon for cliff bars and guess what happened again Look at the one on the far right. Ahhhhhh how do I keep  ending up with oatmeal raisin walnut in my c...

Havasu Half Eve

Image
Last night we had some friends over and I made these bad boys. Delicious. Fruit always tastes better when it is drenched in chocolate. I also decided that I needed to impress them with my extensive collection of salad dressing. That's right look at them all. I am pretty sure we all used the same kind.  Today we left Tucson to drive to Lake Havasu City for the Havasu Half . After 5 hours of driving through the desert we arrived at Quality Inn & Suites ($64 a night). They had a deal going for the half marathoners.   After checking in we headed to the Hampton Inn two miles away for packet pick-up. Like their other events it was small with not a lot going on. There was also a bass fishing competition check-in there. We stood in that line for a minute before looking around and realizing that something was off. After walking down the hall and out a door we found the race packet area. Walked in and got a gear bag, number and t-shirt. They also had some gear fo...

Arizona Distance Classic Race Review

Image
This morning the alarm went off at 5a.m. and I again had anger issues with the early hour but managed to roll myself out of bed, down ice coffee and be ready to go by 5:30. New Razzy Roo headband for the win. Apparently at 5:30a.m. I look slightly deranged but am loving my outfit D got up to take me to the race. That was a nice surprise since he hadn't been feeling well the night before and no one feels good at 5a.m. There was only a 30 minute drive to the start/finish line in Oro Valley which was next to Ventana Medical Center. There were real bathrooms and porto potties for everyone. They also had a VIP area where if you paid extra you got to eat a bagel in a roped off area and a zip up jacket plus your own porto potty to share. There was probably more involved but I only saw bagels and toilets. They had pacers for every 15 minutes that had yellow balloons with the estimated finish time attached to them. For a brief minute I thought I should ru...
