Brazil Part 4: The gift that keeps on giving

Image
D & were dressed nicely for about 4 seconds on this vacation before we went back to being our normal slob selves. Mirror photo, because we don't know how to ask people to take it for us Ah the classic feet in picturesque photo pose The rest of the trip was spent hanging out on the beach and relaxing.  I did manage to get two runs in, a two mile and a four mile beach run. Awesome. Running on the beach is so fun, but also really hard. Photographic evidence that I did workout Our last morning there we had a nice buffet breakfast, packed up and hit the tour bus for the exciting bus ride back to the Recife airport. Along the way  we saw some less than ideal living conditions and colorful towns. On the way to Recife A tent city on a hill The trip back to Tucson involved 27 hours of travel time. We flew from Recife to Brasilia, Brasilia to Belo Horizonte, Belo Horizonte to Miami, Miami to Houston and finally Houston to Tucson. And on the flight from Recife t...

Brazil Part 3: Is Anybody Listening

The great part about all inclusive resorts is that they are all inclusive. All the food and drink you could want. We tried fun mixed drinks, my favorite was the Caipirinha which consisted of freshly squeezed limes, sugar and vodka. Probably a million calories with all the sugar but luckily calories don't county while on vacation so I was in the clear. The resort has a huge buffet that was open for breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as three different restaurants you could reserve a spot at and cafe areas around the pools that had food as well as a 24 hour bar inside the lobby that served appetizers. If you were hungry or thirsty, you were doing something wrong. On Monday I gave my presentation at the conference. The conference was very nice except for the fact that the majority was in Portuguese. Fun presentation outfit. There was some interesting fashion in Brazil. Mostly consisted of tight and short  My particular panel on Water Governance and Institutions had 5 prese...

Brazil Part 2: Strangers in a Strange Land

We tried to keep it together over our million hours of flying Think this is flight 2: getting greasier but still feelin good but towards the end things went downhill Are we there yet? Oh God, why are we not there yet.... Flying into Sao Paulo was amazing. I have never seen a city that big before (Not my picture: but you get the idea) After going through Brazilian customs we were cleared for our last flight to Recife. Whoohoo we made it. Once in Recife we had a tourism bus waiting to take us and other travelers from our flight to Porto de Galinhas where the resort was we were staying at. Since Recife is listed as Brazil's murder capital we weren't taking any chances with the transportation situation. After an hour on a slightly scary bus ride that involved cars driving past at top speeds without a lot of room and I think at one point we might have slightly fallen off the road we arrived at our resort alive yeah. Enotel, Porto de Galinhas Brazil The resort was nic...

Brazil, Brazil, Brazil

The time has just about come....for me to pack my bags, take four plane rides, and I will arrive here: Porto de Galinhas, Brazil baby....oh yeah. I am going for a conference....but I am not totally sold on learning while I am in paradise. When I am not presenting my work, which will take about 30 minutes. I fully intend to be drinking one of these (well maybe not the green one) while looking at this Can not wait!!! Now if only the professors would stop trying to punish me for leaving town by piling on the work. Luckily the resort has a running track and a lap pool and a gym, so no excuses for not getting in my runs/ workouts. Unfortunately the resort is all inclusive so I see a lot of eating and drinking in my future (gotta get your money's worth).  Soooo....we will see how that battle turns out. Ran my three miles this morning at a fairly quick clip (even though I have a head cold...somebody should give me a cookie)- finally cooler in the desert in the morning. Ab...
