All Night Long

Image
So when your friend (who just happens to be an amazing runner ) asks you to run with them through the night to help them achieve an amazing goal the appropriate response is heck yes!!! And then you slightly panic because you don't know if you can actually run all night and convince your other amazing runner friend Nicole to come too because this ultra running business is kinda crazy and everyone needs back up!  Kena is doing the Run for the Heroes 260 miles solo across Georgia (course goes from Ft. Stewart to downtown Columbus) over three days to raise money for the House of Heroes. If  you are the charitable sort consider making a donation  on Kena's behalf. House of Heroes is a wonderful organization that provides no cost home repairs to military and public safety veterans.  This run is for a good cause and all but I wanted to run with Kena for two reasons. Number 1- I like to run with Kena! Number 2- I am always up for learning about ultras and how ...

Greetings from CO and a 50K

Hello from Colorado! I am here to visit family and tomorrow run the Greenland 50k. Not gonna lie. Little nervous about that distance. I have not really run all that long since the Georgia marathon the end of March except for one long trail run. But I will just take it slow and steady and try not to pass out from the lack of oxygen. Goal A- complete this distance and have fun. Goal B- I would like to finish in six hours but ideally more than a finish time I would like to run smart and feel good throughout the race and finish strong. Happy Friday!

3.1 and 24 hours

On Saturday this happened at the Blake Reynolds Memorial Fund 5k race Which was good enough for 2nd place in my age group, 8th female and 33rd overall. So that was pretty cool and painful, mostly cool.  The race was well done and the course was nice. There were nice long sleeve shirts or a vest as swag and those signed up for the Winter Series (four races at a 5k or 10k distance) were able to get their shirts which are nice brooks cold weather gear. This race got me excited to try and run fast. I am hopeful that I can eventually get under 25. Overall I had a great time, except for when I almost puked at the end. Apparently there is a price to pay for picking up the pace. D ran the 10K and kicked butt finishing in 45:29, 4th in his age group and 15th overall. The hubs is insanely fast because he ran so fast but in the end he admitted that he took it easy since his leg has been bothering him. Whhhaaattt I'm sorry 7:20 minute miles does not seem easy. Oh...

Marathon

After long runs - you know runs 15 miles or longer - I think about how many more miles a marathon is and I am just like and then I think about how my hamstrings are tight, my feet are sore, my upper body is tired, my abs have given up- basically I have turned into a giant ball of whiny pain and then begin thinking marathons are just too much but then I read about the ultra adventures of Yo Momma Runs ,  Fast Corey and 50 Marathon in 50 States  and I am all an ultra seems like a great idea. Just maybe not this ultra  that my friend warned me about which is her way of saying 'I know you are crazy so just a heads up this is off limits'. But seriously I want to do an ultra one day and I found this one near family so I am thinking next year maybe I can convince them to be my crew or at least come pick me up and carry me to bed. And if you could throw me in the shower too at some point that would be great, thanks. So I need a 'Bean wants to be stronger so she...
