Marathon Dreams

After watching the Chicago marathon on Sunday I want to run one. Bad.
Thinking about what to do next after my 30 before 30 goals is over (only 9 more to go) I am thinking marathons are the next step. I don't know if I want to define a goal (like 40 marathons before 40) but I do know I want to run some marathons.

I have come up with a tentative 2013 marathon wish list.
April 2013- Illinois Marathon

  • It is close to home. Spring, so will be cool and there will not be any dead of winter long runs or heat of the middle of the summer to deal with, just early spring long runs which might be tricky. Course is supposed to be nice and has good reviews. PLUS I am trying to coordinate with Yo Momma to run with me. And by run with me I mean we can pre-race face stuff carbs together and have a celebratory beer/wine/champagne/apple juice (pick the beverage of your choice oh and brunch, we can go to brunch) together after (in which time I will convince her we are running BFFs in real life). I don't see me being fast enough to keep up with her because she is kind of a lot of awesome when it comes to running. But come on, a near by, well reviewed marathon with possibly one of your running idols= FREAKIN AWESOME (sorry to get all shouty, but exciting).
  • The birthday marathon. I had originally been planning on doing the San Fran marathon but due to a date switch to early June it is not going to be possible so that one goes back on the future marathons to do list and the Half Moon Bay marathon has become my birthday wish. First, amazing location. Second, running in an amazing location. Three, close enough to San Fran for me to visit one of my favorite cities for my birthday but is in itself at an amazing location (just to be clear- amazing location). A smaller race/ amazing course/ awesome reviews/ allows for beach time. I predict best birthday ever.
October 2013- Chicago
  • I live here, it is amazing to watch on TV. I want to experience it in person with 45,000 of my closest friends. I want to stay in a hotel downtown and go to amazing places to eat (see face stuffing reference above). It is Chicago. It will be soon after Half Moon but whatever. If I have to run/walk/ shuffle it will still be amazing.
I foresee a lot more long runs in my future as I prepare to tackle this new distance. I don't even know how to set a goal for this distance. I do know how to prepare - run, baby run.

Update: The treadmill has arrived. A few bolt tightening and belt tightening adjustments and we have lift off. No more excuses to stay all warm and snuggly in bed.  Though I am sure that will still happen I can just feel even more guilty about it.

Oh and treadmills are heavy. Really heavy. Will will reside here until we die because we don't ever want to move that thing again. Ever.

  2. Woo-hoo for marathon planning! I'm still not quite convinced that I want to run one, but I became more tempted after seeing and hearing all about Chicago. Plus, it's a fun city, and you'd be there! Hmm ...

    1. I didn't think I could want to do Chicago more, but if you did it to that would be AMAZING!!! We should register and run it together!

    2. We should ... I'm still a little scared of that distance, though. Maybe after my six scheduled half marathons, I'll be ready??

    3. Oh no, marathons scare the shit out of me ( sorry for the language but it is true) so I propose that we plan to spend seven hours run/ walkin through the city takin pictures and soaking it in and if we happen to finish sooner, good for us. But think the main goals should be finish/ medals/ recovery champagne!:)

  3. Yay for marathons! Before setting a goal... run one first. While I like them, my sister is NOT crazy about the distance. First marathon should totally be no pressure/have fun!

Good luck with what you decide!

    1. That is great advice. I am for sure intimidated by the distance and may never set a goal that is more than finish- or perhaps that will always be at least the C goal:).

  4. Yay, you have to do HMB...it's supposed to be fantastic and really well organised. And I'm running it too!!! Well...the half. So I can cheer for you during the second half as I drink my tea, eat my cupcake and sit in my lounger ;)

  5. My dad had a treadmill and I think he and my brother moved it a few times using quite a few curse words. :-)
