is an ultra runner. The weekend before last he ran the Pine Mountain 40. This past weekend he ran the Bartram 100. This photo has been stolen from here So when I am like 'ugh sixteen miles is soooo far' I can't really say it out loud...cause you know....everything is relative;).

Weekly Training: Dec. 9th - 15th

Another 55 mile week. Monday 6 miles Tuesday 6 miles plus 2 with C25K Wednesday 6 miles Thursday 7 miles plus 2 with C25K Friday 10 miles Saturday rest Sunday 16 miles Total fail on the cross training front. Though I did do some core and hip exercises on my own. My goal for this week is to get to body pump and yoga at least three times (so then maybe I get there twice).  I have noticed that I have been in a bit of a mood lately. Mostly of the bitchy variety. I think all this exercise might be making me a bit tired. So sorry world if I have been less than pleasant. I will work on it.

All the miles

Things that happen when you go from running three days a week to six, from 10 miles a week to over 50: Must eat all the things. And I thought I was hangry before.  Laundry. So much laundry. And then if I also cross train, even more outfits. It is not so much the washing, folding is just the worst. And then apparently they are supposed to go back in the dresser. That part is just so difficult to get motivated to do.  Tired, so very tired. I would like to make a motion that naps become part of everyone's day. Can I get a second?  Running six miles seems like no big deal. Unless you throw a mini fit like I did this morning and then it seems like a very big deal and you will feel like a ridiculous person the rest of the day. Sometimes running is just hard and you don't feel like doing it. Boo hoo poor me. But I did it anyway.  Yesterday the other LT wives and I had a cookie social with some of the wives of the various commanders and high ranking important pee...

Training: Dec 2nd-8th

Last week I ran 54.5 miles. When you just focus on one day of training at a time the total mileage kind of sneaks up on you.  Monday: 4 miles at a 9 min pace, last mile on the track- fartleks  Tuesday: 7 miles at 10 minute pace Wednesday: 8 mile tempo supposed to be at 9:30 pace with some 9's thrown in....I averaged a 9:45 and toured the hills of Columbus (pretty tough workout for me) Thursday: 6 miles easy Friday: 8 miles easy 16 miles: They happened , not with the last 4 at 9:30 as dictated by the training plan, but I did run 16. Tuesday and Thursday: 2 miles and 2.5 miles with C25K program Cross training: Pilates, Body pump and core work. I am pretty pleased with the first week of training. It was tough. Not really a surprise since Chicago in October I have done at most around 25 miles a week with a few quick miles on the treadmill being the hardest workout. No wonder the 16 miler on Saturday seemed so ridiculous, the past two months my long r...

The Long Run: A 16 mile tale of woe

When I woke up at 4 a.m. to fit in 16 miles before having to be at work at 9 a.m. and it was pouring I should have just taken it as a sign and gone back to bed but when your coach expects  you to run (I have a coach now, did I not tell you, more on that later) you just kind of suck it up and run. Under pressure. Well after obsessively checking the weather and waiting for it to let up. Phone app said I should be fine. I was not fine...... In my genius little brain a t-shirt and shorts seemed the best bet. That way if it did rain not a lot of clothing to get wet and weigh me down. You know what happens to shorts when they get soaking wet during mile 1, an insane amount of chaffing for the next 15 miles. Good thing it was raining because my thigh chaffing very well might have started a forest fire. Oh god it hurts so bad. So the weather app can suck it. It rained off and on the whole way. Well until the last five miles where it just pretty much poured and thundered and l...

On Saturday this happened at the Blake Reynolds Memorial Fund 5k race Which was good enough for 2nd place in my age group, 8th female and 33rd overall. So that was pretty cool and painful, mostly cool.  The race was well done and the course was nice. There were nice long sleeve shirts or a vest as swag and those signed up for the Winter Series (four races at a 5k or 10k distance) were able to get their shirts which are nice brooks cold weather gear. This race got me excited to try and run fast. I am hopeful that I can eventually get under 25. Overall I had a great time, except for when I almost puked at the end. Apparently there is a price to pay for picking up the pace. D ran the 10K and kicked butt finishing in 45:29, 4th in his age group and 15th overall. The hubs is insanely fast because he ran so fast but in the end he admitted that he took it easy since his leg has been bothering him. Whhhaaattt I'm sorry 7:20 minute miles does not seem easy. Oh...
