Running Stuff

Image
Well the 'must own all the running things' addiction reared its ugly head again. Though I had been wanting the chevron or candy strip running skirt when I saw this one on sale for $26 I had to order it. I love it! I can't wait to race in it this spring. This will have to hold me over until the other two go on sale. My general running attire rule is I buy nothing full price. Speaking of sales....... I bought some Brooks that were on sale on Zappos. The awesome bloggers over at Behold the Turtle and My Heart's Conten t had good things to say about Brooks so I am excited to give them a whirl.  Plus they are super fun colors. Have you scored any good running deals lately?

Thighlicious and Disappointment

Image
First off today was 7/11 which meant FREE SLURPEE. And I happen to live by two Slurpee meccas so I stopped on my way to work. That is right 8am Slurpee run. Though it was tiny, the sugar free strawberry banana hit the spot after 6 hilly miles this morning. In other food news our neighbor showed up at our door with homemade tarts yesterday, waltzed in, placed them in the fridge and waltzed out. So that was awesome. On to the sad times.  I have heard great things about Oiselle and am on the hunt for the perfect running shorts so I ordered some rogas and today I opened the mail to find  I danced back from the mailbox with visions of 20 mile tempo runs (I have never done a 20 mile tempo run and I have no intention of doing one in the near future but that was my fantasy) with magic shorts. Visions of trails and fields to frolic through a la The Sound of Music (singing optional). And look at them. They are cute and they feel so good. And they fit my ...

Who wears short shorts?

Why am I making you look at this random crotch shot of me that is of amazing quality (Bean's blog: bringing you quality photos since 2011)? Because these shorts used to not fit. And now they do. I went running in them and they were fine and they have been sitting in the bottom of a drawer for awhile now waiting for my vow to fit into them again one day to come true. Cue happy dance. Guess who figured out how to put gifs in her blog? ME Run this morning: 3.1 miles in 31.43/ 10:08 avg mile This morning I made egg cupcakes. They tasted pretty good but were kind of a lot of work for baked eggs with stuff in it. Ingredients: 6 eggs sauteed onions, squash, garlic, jalapeno cooked bacon pieces then just combine and ladle into paper linings in a muffin pan and bake at 350 for 20 minutes. They would be a fun dish to make if you were having people over for breakfast or brunch and you could make them healthier by omitting the bacon. But where is the fun i...

Arizona Distance Classic Race Review

Image
This morning the alarm went off at 5a.m. and I again had anger issues with the early hour but managed to roll myself out of bed, down ice coffee and be ready to go by 5:30. New Razzy Roo headband for the win. Apparently at 5:30a.m. I look slightly deranged but am loving my outfit D got up to take me to the race. That was a nice surprise since he hadn't been feeling well the night before and no one feels good at 5a.m. There was only a 30 minute drive to the start/finish line in Oro Valley which was next to Ventana Medical Center. There were real bathrooms and porto potties for everyone. They also had a VIP area where if you paid extra you got to eat a bagel in a roped off area and a zip up jacket plus your own porto potty to share. There was probably more involved but I only saw bagels and toilets. They had pacers for every 15 minutes that had yellow balloons with the estimated finish time attached to them. For a brief minute I thought I should ru...

Arizona Distance Classic Eve

Image
This morning I woke up and my legs still felt a little sore so I headed out with the dogs for a stroll around the neighborhood for about an hour to see if it would loosen things up. Seems to have worked and these lazy butts  mutts got some exercise. Win win. I meet up with my friend C for some carbo loading lunch at the macaroni grill and to celebrate her birthday! So that is really a win.  Stuffing your face is more fun in pairs. She also brought me my weekly fix of celebrity news. So that is what I will be doing tonight. I also laid out my outfit for tomorrow. We are headed over for margarita's with some friends later tonight so it is probably good that everything is ready to go tomorrow. Tequila and race prep probably don't mix well. Fingers crossed tequila and half marathons do.

I do what I want

Today after spending a lifetime and a half (okay 60 minutes) on the elliptical I decided that a trip to Target was in order. I have school work to do and class prep to get done, but ever since finishing my PhD exams I have been pretty lazy when it comes to responsibilities and all about just doing what I want to do. Eventually I will have to buckle down I guess but it is hard considering next week is Spring Break, it is 80 degrees out and I am currently the world's biggest slacker. Anyways Target. I love Target. I want to give Target all my money in exchange for trendy scarves and cute tote bags. But today I only got the essentials..... Toning bands to strengthen the hips and calves. Left leg you will get better. Baseball. I read an article in Runner's World that Sara Hall uses a baseball or a lacrosse ball to roll out her muscles. Supposedly works better than a tennis ball so I thought I would give it a try. She is an infinitely better runner than m...

Temecula 1/2 Race Goals

Image
Tomorrow I head out to the Whoohoo it feels like I haven't done a half in forever. Okay it has been about a month but still FOREVER. After seven hours of driving we will arrive at for our weekend of wine and running. Not excited for driving but excited for hotel stay. I love staying in hotels, no dogs waking me up at 5 a.m., nothing to clean. Pure awesomeness. I of course packed the essentials This obviously says I am planning on doing some PhD exam studying this weekend. Since the weather says it could be cool and raining I am suffering from outfit indecision 2012 To wear the skirt or the pants, the long sleeve or the short sleeve, arm sleeves? Ahhhhhh guess I will take it all and make the decision race day. I am known for my light packing skills Yes I am only leaving for two days, why? Okay so race goals. Since I have hurt my toe doing yoga (hhhhhhhh) I am not sure how fast I am going to be going this race plus there are some hills so......hmmm A g...

Tucson Half Marathon Eve

Image
Met up with my friend Erica to head to the Tucson marathon expo at 9a.m. She is doing the full marathon. So awesome. I am sticking to the halves for now.   Tucson Marathon Expo We arrived at the El Conquistador Hotel in Oro Valley a little after 9:30. Was a little ticked when they did not have me as registered. After I explained that I had mailed in my registration the lady at the info desk said someone probably just forgot to add me to the list and told me to fill out another registration form and handed me a number. So that was easy. After collecting my race packet, free socks and tech shirt we wondered around the expo. I found a pair of $12 arm warmers I had to try. As D put it "now you are one of those people"- not sure what that means but I think it means I am now awesome. Flowers are fun Going to try them tomorrow because everyone knows the best day to try something new is race day. I figure the arm warmers won't kill me. Fingers crossed. Arm w...
